Pix by Ann, Holly, Bailey, Evelyn - long weekend on Guemes Island - old friends, together.

More signage of the 'Duh' variety~

Thanks to Jerone - train oops

What were we doing seven years ago at this time? Why, spending the weekend on Guemes!

multi million dollar plane oops - air show crash - pilot bailed OK~~

Evelyn. Last performances.
World class talent.

A few days on Guemes - well deserved rest for the Keeyoks Editor...
The annual gathering of Ann's highschool chums~ more photos to come, they are on Ann's camera. These are cell phone pix.

Check out my brother Adam, being deservedly honored, only a few years ago. We need to get refreshed on this story..

The sea. Not always a friendly place...

Finally, a use for all these weird clips floating around in your desk~

July 23, 2010 Friday

Oh, boy - heat wave coming. Look out - may hit 80. Cool summer, so far. Which, BTW, suits some of us just fine...

Should be spending some time on Guemes Island (right next door, by ferry) this weekend, Ann's highschool chums coming into town for their annual get together.
Falling a little behind, here. Did get some work done in the trailer, ceiling wise. Cut and installed a piece over the worst of the 'bad' wood overhead. One small piece to go, plus finish, patch and fill.

OMG - forgot to hold my tummy in...

Hopefully, once this area (and the rest of the ceiling where contact paper has been removed) are filled and smoothed out - we can merely paint.
Another reason why living in a small town is cool, mis-addressed mail still gets delivered. The address on the envelope, is not really even close to ours. But, our local post office knew where it should be delivered~
Since it was a bill, oh well, we don't want to go there...

Stuff found on the websites we visit - they are on the drop down 'links' menu.
Mr. 'C' - attending gun stuff - he got this swell shot of a shooter with expended cartridges in the air.

A tribute, from The Ptarmigan Nest - always a favorite stop on the internet hiway.

From TJ's website - colorful!

From Eric and Debra - Gideon and Judah~

Jack has made a wise purchase - new cutaway Fender Guitar~~

Doreen has a good eye, too~~

Ann has got the new/old tank almost ready to go in her new office -

Oh, boy! Speaking of guitars, we just acquired this one, thanks to Barb -

built up dust inside computer case takes another victim...

July 18, 2010 Sunday

The dust clogged cooling fins (above) tell the story. Blow that dust out of your two year (or older) computer. If air can't get in to those areas, your machine will overheat, and something will fail.

Shipwreck Day was yesterday - all downtown becomes one giant garage sale/flea market. The turnout is amazing - thousands of folks trek past the many tents and booths, and nearly as many sellers display their 'treasures', some right on the street. Note: there is fair food, ie, cheeseburgers! That's Ann, in the blue top.

We found these useful items, having arrived too late in the morning and without sufficient funds to score any of the more interesting and unique items that go in the first hour. A new popcorn bowl, and a copper scoop with pusher - perfect for removing the gravel from a fish tank.

A few days ago, Ann set up a fish tank in the old (not the new) shed. It's purpose became apparent when we emptied the large tank she had at the college, and brought the fish home (temporarily).

large Hatchet fish has endured several moves - and this one, too~

Getting a tad crowded in Ann's jewelry shop -

The fish will stay here until the large tank is re-established in Ann's new office. She cleaned it and left it sunning, and we moved the stand.
Using my improvised hole digger pan to scoop in the fish tank.

This tank is HEAVY - even empty.

Thanks to the Mayor -

Folks coming in and setting up, tuning, etc at S.U.E. yesterday.

Guest bass player, extraordinaire - Michael Kohn, Richard's nephew.

Top edge cleaned up - might be done with this wee project. We think this is project avoidance - probably should be out there in the trailer...

It's been so lovely these last weeks, sunny and 70's everyday - it's hard to stay off the grill. This entire meal went over the coals.

Thanks to B. Huff~
Recall that we ran trains well before there was radio, and the trick was to keep them from being in the same place at the same time. This was accomplished with a scrap of paper, physically handed up to the engineer on the head end, and also the Conductor, on the caboose, by a Tower Operator. That piece of paper gave your train permission to use the main track from the Tower where the train was sitting (or passing) to the next tower. In some ways, it was a better (safer) system. No paper, no go. Now, if your piece of paper told you to take the next siding and you didn't - well, that's what happened to Casey Jones.

July 14, 2010 Wednesday

The gang dropped by for cake and ice cream and to nudge Evelyn into her 18th year. She took it all in stride. Ann took photos that are still on her camera. I took a couple, too.

Evelyn and Linda, working up an appetite...

The dry spell continues, sunny everyday - just like one might hope for summer weather. The grass is slowly going dormant, and does not need to be cut every three days as it did in the spring.

An entrance to Lunar caves is discovered.
NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is beaming back images of caverns hundreds of feet deep -- beckoning scientists to follow.
"They could be entrances to a geologic wonderland," says Mark Robinson of Arizona State University, principal investigator for the LRO camera. "We believe the giant holes are skylights that formed when the ceilings of underground lava tubes collapsed."

"The tunnels offer a perfect radiation shield and a very benign thermal environment," says Robinson. "Once you get down to 2 meters under the surface of the Moon, the temperature remains fairly constant, probably around -30 to -40 degrees C."
That may sound cold, but it would be welcome news to explorers seeking to escape the temperature extremes of the lunar surface. At the Moon's equator, mid-day temperatures soar to 100 deg C and plunge to a frigid -150 deg C at night. MORE

July 10, 2010 Saturday

We had a minor heat wave - it came and went. Never got much over 80 where we are, but records were broken in Seattle. It all was enough to make me pretty lazy.

Today's signage - You can always work at a gas station even if you didn't complete your education, English, in particular...

Ann's new fish tank in her office has this bug-eyed fellow~

A friend had one of these - Gateway 610 - sort of a screen and computer in one. It served well, until recently. We took it apart to see what happened? Video card fried - lotta' dust in there. That's a problem with this type of machine, and also laptops - no way to open them up and blow out the dust. Try to anyway - shoot compressed air in all the vents - it will help somewhat.

About a hundred screws removed later, we knew the problem, and had the hard drive out to retrieve files.

dusty in there...

As with most computers over a few years old, an amazing amount of technology and engineering is reduced to scrap for the recycle bin.

Welcome home to these guys - Dick and Laura, back from a month abroad. Oh boy - pictures!

Thanks to Paul for this one, grandparents holding Judah.

Evelyn and Talyn, friends since preschool, make it to the Stop Sign. Congratulations!

Some one has their work cut out for them - major restoration happening.

Speaking of, the microwave failed. The bells and whistles work, but no heating. Ann found a replacement that is this close to fitting under the cupboards. Where's my sawsall?

Overnight trip to the other side of the North Cascades -- Winthrop. Highway 20 through the mountains. Absolutely fun riding -- especially as we avoided any rain this time. Photos by Ann~
